PRAYER UPDATE #658

FLORIAN VEZINA OCT. 16/14

Please send prayer requests for Flo my brother. It's his heart.  He can't get his breath. Going back and forth from the doctors.
Michelle Miller Email:
ninthplace99@gmail.co

Florian and Donna have been several times to doctors and many more appointments to come, trying to get to the bottom of Flo’s difficulty in breathing. He has only one kidney, so the kidney doctor as well as the heart doctors’ has been diagnosing him. The dye used in checking on his heart is very hard on the kidney and that needs to be monitored.  His heart doctor has said that he has congestive heart failure.  He has a lot of fluid on his feet and legs and around his heart. They are working on flushing this out. He also has oxygen with him to help him with his breathing.   He only walks a few steps and then he is out of breath and also he can’t seem to get much sleep (difficulty in sleeping). Please pray for Florian’s relief from all of this and that the doctors find an immediate fix for his heart.

GENE KLOPFER OCT. 11/14

Gene is back in the hospital.  He has retained 38 lbs of water and they are working on releasing it from his body.  It has been coming out of his skin.  They have already taken 12 lbs away. After that they need to figure out what to do with a leakage in the valve in his heart.  Therapy on adjusting to his new leg has been put on hold till these things have been corrected. They probably won’t be able to come down to PEM this season. Please pray for speedy recovery for Gene & also for the 24/7 caregiver Ethel. Ph. 425-355-2573 or 425-330-8132

GORDON PARTRIDGE OCT. 2/14

Hi everyone, Well, we just got bad news.  They won't proceed with the second part of Gord's aneurysm surgery because of his poor kidney function.  If they went ahead it could mean that he would be on dialysis.  It has been postponed indefinitely.  Our family doctor just phoned a little while ago.  He is going to send him to an Internist and also to have an ultra sound of the kidneys.  Regarding his hip, our doc. is going to send him to an Antithesis to see if he would even go ahead with the hip surgery under the circumstances.  We also have to be in touch with the hip specialist.  So as you can see our life is on hold once again.  We are so disappointed.  Your good thoughts and prayers would be appreciated to get his kidneys functioning properly so they can go ahead with the second part.  If things don't improve he will just have to stay like he is. PRAYER UPDATE #655

========================

GORDON PARTRIDGE SEP. 25/14

Hi everyone, Yes, we finally have a confirmed date for Gord to have the second part of his aneurysm surgery.  It is on October 7th and he will have to be at St. Paul's Hospital at 7:30 a.m.  He will be given a local anesthetic and therefore this part of the surgery will be done while he is awake.  This is a very critical part and we hope and pray that it will all go well.  We really appreciate all your phone calls, e-mails, inquiries and best wishes.  We will leave here on Oct. 6th.  He will be kept in hospital for one night after the procedure so we will more than likely return home on the 8th then he will be able to go ahead with his hip replacement surgery and then maybe by early next year he will be back to normal. JERRY & LANCE WEYENETH SEP. 26/14

Hi Everyone, Here is an up-date on Jerry and Lance. Jerry had his second chemo treatment this week. He is doing good. He helped me mow the grass today. He can resume all activities.  He does get tired easily which is to be expected. Lance got a hopeful report from his doctor.  The brain tumor has shrunk but is still there.  Lance will need another MRI in 6 mos. to check on the tumor. They hope it will continue to get smaller. We are so grateful. Thank You for the Prayers and concerns.

GARRY AND SHARON FLEMING SEP. 28/14

Gary and I would like to send a special thanks to our Family of Friends at Pueblo el Mirage. What a wonderful group of people. The constant messages, positive thoughts, prayers, phone calls, cards and all your concerns are truly amazing. We are certainly blessed! Garry is recovering well and 6 days after surgery Sharon is on the mend. Same surgery for both but after a biopsy in the OR, Sharon only had 2 V sections in her left lower lobe to completely remove tumor. No further surgery was required as the tumor tested benign. Plans to return to PEM are in place and we are excited to see everyone again. We consider ourselves very lucky people to have you all as part of our family. GARRY FLEMING AUG. 21/14

Garry had the most wonderful news on Monday. He had stage T1 cancer and after surgery no radiation or chemo required. We thought we had won the lottery. Now this is the news (below) Sharon got on Wed!

SHARON FLEMING AUG. 21/14

Wow,  I don't know how to say this. Went to thoracic surgeon and he has me booked for surgery September 22nd. I do have a 1.2cm tumour in my lung. He feels it is not reachable by needle biopsy so will go in and take a sample. If it is malignant he will then remove lobe.  What are the chances we would both have to go through this. We are so in shock.  He says it seems to present as malignant but not 100%. One can only hope I guess.  Lots of tests now to see if cancer anywhere else....Sorry it isn't better news!!!! JERRY WEYENETH AUG. 10/14

Hooray Everyone,!!!!   Jerry got home today around 5:30.  He is feeling very relieved to be home.  He has to be careful and follow all the doctors instructions but is happy to do that.  Lots of protein drinks to help the liver grow back.  Walking 45 mins. a day.  That should not be a problem for Jerry.  No driving-No lawn mower- no lifting anything.  Just take it easy and heal.  Pretty good deal for 8 weeks until the next phase.  Thanks for all the prayers cards and e-mails.  He is so suprised at the response from Everyone.  We have nothing but praise!!!  PTL  Marylin

RON SCHOENHERR AUG. 13/14

Sorry for delay but a lot of testing, probing, scanning, draining and scratching of heads of occurred since last update.  Important part is Dad is feeling much better...physically and emotionally.  Still in some pain from laying/sitting around, but coming around. Medical update: All testing has come back favorable.  No infection, lung debris, cancer, spleen, liver, kidney or heart issues.  On the negative side his lung has not re-inflated and they don't have a root cause for the deflation.  Thought is the lung is stuck to the cavity wall and will not inflate.  They are considering a surgical procedure to put a scope in between the lung and cavity wall and see what's going on and maybe separate the two. Until then Dad sits in the hospital.  If we know anything we know Dad is not much on sitting!! Mom is holding up well through this but she misses her mate badly...but is encouraged that he is getting better. Can't end without crediting Joe and Candy for holding it all together...taking care of Mom...working with doctors to sort out stuff...and maintaining a positive attitude through it all!! Thanks for all your prayers and good wishes...it's working!!! Bill

RON SCHOENHERR AUG. 17/14

Dad went home yesterday...yeah!!!  Medical status no different than reported in last update.  He is now in the hands of the cardiothoracic surgeon as the pulmonologist said Dad was "beyond his expertise to understand" what's wrong.  Many of us have probably felt the same way about Dad at one time or another!! Ha!!! Surgeon says they will wait three weeks, repeat the MRI and then decide whether to go in and explore. For now Dad is resting comfortably and gaining strength. Same can be said for Mom who is grateful for having her "Honey" back. That's all for now I'll keep you posted if something changes. Thanks for your supportive calls, visits, prayers and good wishes! JERRY WEYENETH AUG. 4, 2014

Hi Everyone,  Thanks for all your prayers and concerns for Jerry.  He had his surgery today Aug. 4th. The surgery took 51/2 Hrs.  He lost 75% of his liver. He had a grapefruit size tumor in the liver which attached itself to his diaphragm. He has a large incision (10"long) but is doing pretty good.  He will have to do chemo in about 8 weeks. Hopefully, we will still be able to come to Az. We will keep you updated. Thanks for all your prayers and support .What would we do without family and friends!    Marylan  Lot 666

JERRY WEYENETH AUG. 6, 2014

Thank You Thank You To All our Friends and Family of PEM. Your Prayers are working.  Jerry will be moved out of ICU today to a regular room. This is amazing in the fact that they removed a tumor weighing 5 lbs.  Unbelievable,!!!  The doctors are really great here at Henry Ford Hospital. Jerry will be here possible another 6 days.  But that is easy to handle.  He is sitting up in a chair again this morning eating breakfast and falling asleep. That is OK. He had another EKG this morning just to make sure everything is OK with his heart.  All is well!  Again thank you for the prayers and concerns.  We Love You All, Marylan

JERRY WEYENETH AUG. 8, 2014

Jerry is doing great.  He walked the floors twice so far and its only 3:00. The doctors were both in and very pleased with his progress. He is off everything accept 1 I.V. in his neck. He sits in a chair most of the time. Just doesn't want to lay in bed. Tomorrow he loses the last I.V. WOW! Thanks for all the prayers,  We all know why he is doing so well. FLORIAN VEZINA JUL.16/14

A month ago on June 6 to June 10, Florian was in the hospital and diagnosed with a heart condition and was sent home with Nitrostat pills to take up to 3 a day. On Thursday July 10th he was having chest pains and that night took 9 of those pills trying to relieve his chest pains. On Fri. (next day) his chest and arm pains were not any better, so at approx. 6pm Donna took him to the Del Web Hospital and they found that he had a heart attack. They did all kinds of testing over Sat. and on Sunday and put in 3 stents (70 – 90% blockage). They kept him in Intensive Care till Wednesday July 16th. They are still monitoring him for his ‘cretin’ which is too high and also has given him 3 blood transfusions, etc for his ‘hemoglobin’. He is now in room #403D and can receive visitors. Donna is there most of the time. You can phone his room at 623-524-8879 and home number for Donna at night is 623-977-2469. Their email is not working. Donna & Florian.

Hi Everyone, Well we finely got back into the cancer doctor today. Jerry has a large tumor in his right lobe of his liver and a very small tumor in the left lobe.  Since the tumor is so big they can’t give chemo or radiation.  He will have surgery at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit hopefully within the next ten days.  First, he will need another colonoscopy, since this is colon cancer which has moved to the liver. We are grateful that the cancer is contained to the liver.  This is an answer to prayer.  Jerry is feeling good and having no discomfort at all. Another answer to prayer!  Thank You Everyone, for your prayers on his behalf.  He will have, half his liver removed but the doctor tells us you can live very well with half a liver.  I will keep you posted. GARY FLEMING JUN. 20/14

Gary was put in a screening program by his new doctor are year or so ago. Because he was a smoker they screen his lung and as long as there's nothing there they screen it once a year. He had a small spot there. And now it has increased to 1 cm. Gary had a lung biopsy two weeks ago and the results have come back malignant. We went to see the thoracic surgeon yesterday. Gary will have to have the upper lobe of the left lung removed. Because this tumor is so small this is the best bet for non recurrence. Garry has to have MRI, pet scan and breathing test to rule out any other cancer and if there is none then they will remove upper lobe of his left lung. He is already scheduled for his pet scan on Monday and is meeting with his surgeon on Thursday. I will try to keep you updated. We would love your encouragement and prayers! JOHN JARVIS MAY 2314

Hi everybody, A short note to let you know that we went to Ontario last week to visit family and on our way back we stopped overnight to see John and Ada in Calgary. We were pleasantly surprised to see John doing so well after his illness last winter. He has put on about 15 lbs. of the over 30 lbs. he lost during his stay in the hospital and I'm sure we can give thanks to Ada's good cooking. John is still doing physio and exercises every day and he is able to walk without assistance of a cane or walker. He continues to have his oxygen by nasal prongs and has a 50 foot hose attachments so he gets everywhere he wants to go in the house & patio outside. Ada says he tolerated a trip to Saskatchewan very well a few weeks ago to visit friends. John says  'Thank you for all the prayers and get well wishes.' He says he had so many prayers that there  is still  a  'stack  of them'  that he can get to..... His sense of humor is still very good.
Cheers to everybody ,From Fern at

ED STIVERS APR. 25/14

I want to let you know that former PEM resident Ed Stivers passed away peacefully on April 21, just a few weeks away from his 90th birthday. He is survived by his half-sister, Mary Bishop-Perret, daughter, Kathy Arellano and her husband Bob, his son, Mark Stivers, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He leaves behind many friends, too. He and his late wife, Em, enjoyed several years at Pueblo, where Ed taught lawn bowling, was an avid golfer, and loved to dance with all the gals at the Jam ol' Oprey. After Em's death in 2009, Ed moved to the Los Angeles area to Aegis of Granada Hills (an assisted living community) and was able to spend quite a bit of time with his daughter and her husband (Kathy and Bob Arellano), his son, Mark Stivers, and his grandchildren, Ailene, Eric, Justin and Jeremy. While at Aegis, Ed renewed his interest in building model airplanes from balsa wood and tissue paper, catching up on episodes of Law and Order, and watching golf tournaments. He became an advocate for the diabetics at Aegis, campaigning for no-sugar-added desserts and snacks at the facility, achieving small victories along the way. He always remembered with great fondness his friends at Pueblo El Mirage and wished that he could have gone back for a visit. Sadly, his increasing health problems made that wish impossible. Kathy and Bob will plan a small memorial service at PEM in the fall (mid-late October/early November) where friends can gather for a while and trade memories. More details will become available later in the year. For more information, e-mail Kathy at kathysewsfrit@yahoo.com In peace, Kathy Arellano.
