A THANK YOU MAR. 18/15

A huge THANK YOU to all the many, many of you in PEM who have supported the efforts to make sleeping mats for the homeless made from plastic bags this season. As of now, 33 mats secure in fabric duffel bags have been delivered to a rescue mission in Phoenix, 2 more are ready to be delivered, and more are in the process. With an average of 600 bags needed per mat, that means about 21,000 bags have been used already. That's recycling to the max. There is a list of over 60 park residents that are known to have smoothed, folded, cut, fastened together or crocheted and there are untold others who are working to made this project a great success including so many who have been supplying the plastic bags. And it's not over yet.  Many have already left for the season but others continue to participate until they leave.  Some others who are  full-time residents have agreed to prepare the bags ready for crocheting in the fall. So please continue to save your shopping bags and help out with the making of these sleeping mats in any way that you can so we can all feel good about helping those who are less fortunate. If you can help this summer, please let me know and I will show you what needs to be done to turn plastic bags into sleeping mats. Once again, THANK YOU to all who have helped in any way! DOROTHY JONES JAN. 11/15

It was so good to see everyone on New Year's Eve. We enjoyed the service too. I just wanted to let you know that Dorothy isn't well. She fell again and dislocated her hip. We feel like it's been out all along since she was in so much pain. Now that they put it back in, she isn't hurting as much. But she continues to fall and is so weak that she requires full time care. Our daughter Jeannine is here today and is flying her back to Montana tonight. Dorothy has decided to enroll in Hospice care since she is tired of poor health. She has been getting blood transfusions to keep her alive but has decided to stop these as well. I am staying for awhile until we get her settled and see how she does. GORD PARTRIDGE  DEC 22/14

Well, we finally got home last night safe and sound and so thankful that we hadn't started home the scheduled day when Gord collapsed. The hospital thinks it was because of low hemoglobin and a sudden drop in blood pressure. Test can't find any other reason. His
hemoglobin has been quite low ever since the original surgery and they were worried about leakage in the graft but nothing shows on a Dry CT Scan. They can't use the dye because of the poor kidney function and it is hopeful that now that the stent has been repaired that this will be corrected. They have reduced his b.p. medicine and he will be monitored closely for that as well as the hemoglobin and kidney function. After Gord is feeling stronger and when these issues get ironed out hopefully he will be able to get his hip fixed and get back to somewhat normal. We would like to thank you all for all your kind and positive thoughts and prayers. Also a huge thank you to Marti for all your hard work and time spent in sending out the prayer list.  It is a wonderful way for us all to keep in touch.  Cynthia & Gord.

GORDON PARTRIDGE  DEC. 20/14

Hi all, Well here we are still in Vancouver.  I was all packed up ready to go home on Friday and got Gord up and  I helped him into the bathroom.  He complained about a sore back but thought it was from lying in bed for 4 days. he tried to stand at the sink to shave he said his legs felt funny and he couldn't stand and asked me to get him back into bed but when we tried to move his legs just collapsed and I laid him on the bathroom floor and had to call 911.  He is currently in Eagle Ridge Hospital.  They have done an x-ray  and dry CT scan and can't see any problem.  His hemoglobin has been on the low side since the surgery in July.  They contacted the surgeon and gave him a pint of blood and have kept him over night.  Julie has so many stairs at her house that he won't be able to come here and at this point it is really raining and called for a lot of snow on the highway so we can't drive home anyway plus our daughter won't let me drive.  I want to fly and then have them bring our car up later but we don't know any firm plans yet.  This couldn't happen at a worse time.  Julie was just promoted to a new job and she has taken a lot of time off to be with us and also Christmas time & winter driving so I don't know when we will be home.  I just thought I would keep you posted.  Love Cynthia

GORDON PARTRIDGE DEC. 17/14

Hi all, Well, finally good news. Gord has his kidney fixed today. They had 2 cancellations so he is very lucky that he got in today. What happened was that the stent into the kidney was bent. Yesterday they had tried to correct the problem going through the right arm and down to the kidney but because of the angle of the artery this couldn't be done. Today they went in through the left arm and they were able to put in a new stent and the blood began flowing through immediately. He is still in CCU (cardiac care unit) tonight where he will be monitored closely but so far so good. I can't thank you all enough for all your caring e-mails. your support means so much to us. I don't know at the moment when he will be discharged but as long as he continues to improve I don't care. Love to all, Cynthia

============================

GORDON PARTRIDGE DEC. 18/14

Wow, when things happen they happen fast. As you all know, after waiting months Tues. morning they did part of Gord's surgery in the afternoon. They couldn't get in to replace the bent stent in his kidney and told us that we would have to wait until Monday Dec. 22nd, then a while later they changed it to this Friday and then on Wed. morning they said there was a cancellation and they would do the procedure Wed. afternoon which they did. I couldn't believe it this afternoon when the surgeon came in said that Gord could go home now so here we are at our daughters and hopefully the highway will co-operate so we can undertake the 5 hour drive to our home tomorrow. We want to thank you all for all your kind thoughts and prayers. They sure have been answered for us and hopefully the kidney function will improve enough for him to get his hip replacement surgery in the not too distant future and then we can get on with life. Merry Christmas and a Happy and Healthy 2015 to you all. Cynthia.

GORDON HART DEC. 18/14

Gord is doing very well. He is weaning himself off the pain pills so the pain is there still but he still pushes himself to do more everyday. We watch a lot of Netflix war movies and dust bowl movies and then we get to watch Bevs picks for the evening ( which are lighter and more fun and romantic). He was wanting an exercise bicycle one day to build up his muscles, because he is getting weak from laying around. His daughter Denise set him straight.reminding him what the doctor said about resting and healing.. It is very hard for Gord to lay around and do nothing. .I am quite enjoying the change of pace. We will be spending Christmas with Victor, Loren and their family. Gord needs to be quiet so he can rest. Some days Gord doesn't want me to be taking pictures of him. This is the latest from the Harts in Selkirk, Mb. Bev.

PRAYER UPDATE #668

GORDON PARTRIDGE DEC. 17/14

We are in Van. now and Gord had the aneurysm closed yesterday. He had to lay perfectly flat for 6 hours last night and they were going to wake him every hour to see if he still had movement in his legs. They couldn't correct the blockage in the kidney because of the weird angle of the artery so now he has to wait for a vascular surgeon to do it and it probably won't be done until Friday at the earliest. The plan last night was to keep him in hospital until this takes place so I hope they do because our daughter's house has a lot of stairs and it is hard for him to navigate because of the hip. It is much worse after they were moving the leg around during the surgery so I don't know how he will be able to manage before he can get this fixed. Thanks, Cynthia

It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of gold and silver.

PRAYER UPDATE #667

GORDON PARTRIDGE DEC. 12/14

We got a phone call from Vancouver General Hospital in Vancouver telling us to have Gord check into the hospital on Monday the 15th. On Tuesday, his surgery will take place. They think that the artery to the kidney is blocked and that is what's causing the poor kidney function. They will go in through the groin and correct this and then they will also close the two holes that were originally left in the graft in the aorta. Of course this is all very risky and Gord will be awake so that when they close the holes he can tell them if he still has feeling in his legs. At this point we don't know just how long he will be in hospital. After he recovers from this he will finally be able to make plans to have his hip replacement and hopefully after a few more months he will be back on the golf course. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers. Cynthia

JERRY WEYENETH NOV. 12/14

We saw  the Doctors Asst. today.  Everything is going well.  They gave us the OK to leave for Az.  YAH!!!  Hopefully we can pull out Friday Morning, Weather permitting.  Just hope for a good day to travel.  We will be taking our time driving.  Jerry must stop every hour to walk around as to prevent blood-clots in his legs.  So we will be at least 5 days getting to AZ.  So looking forward to seeing everyone. WILLARD CARPER NOV. 15/14

After a few days in the hospital and several days at a rehab facility, Will is at home recuperating from his hip replacement surgery.  He has home visits by a nurse, physical therapist and occupational therapist.  We are hoping to fly to Arizona some time in December. This cold weather and approaching snow storm is something we would have liked to avoid.  Thank you for your good wishes, prayers and cards.  We really appreciate the kind thoughts and are looking forward to seeing you soon.

GORDON HART NOV. 16/14

Gord flew home to Manitoba to go on his annual hunting trip with his Son and Grandson. On Sat., Nov. 15th they were out hunting (over 4 hours from home), and Gord was stationed in a tree-stand a little over 10 ft. high. At approx. 9:30 am he slipped and fell backwards onto the frozen ground (19° below 0), hitting his head and landing on his rifle (breaking it) which discharged and alerted his Grandson, that came running to find him lying on the ground. He immediately fetched his Dad (Gord’s Son), who has paramedics and fire & rescue training. 911 was called and an hour later Gord was hauled out of the bush on a stretcher and taken to the rural hospital. They did a CAT scan but other than a bad concussion and his neck and back being bruised and sore, he should be okay. He is still in the hospital (in a small town of Deloraine, MB) for further observation. He is in a lot of pain and is unable to move on his own yet. We are asking for prayer for his discomfort and that he will soon be released from the hospital or at least to the Winnipeg Hospital that is close to his children. Also for a speedy return to PEM and back to his wife Bev.

The Emperor, his bullies and henchmen terrorize the world every day,
which is why every day we need a little poem of kindness,
a small song of peace, a brief moment of joy.

WENDY WALLER NOV. 2/14

I want to request prayers for Wendy Waller. She has been battling cancer for several months. She underwent Radiation and Chemo and then had a double mastectomy several months ago and then more treatments. She has been fighting an infection from the surgery and recently spent 9 days in the hospital treating this. The cancer has spread and about a week ago she had her ovaries removed and came home from the hospital Friday, Oct. 31st. The surgery went well. They have no information yet on the other spot that had shown up and she is still being treated for the infection. Many of you in the park know her husband Don Waller (No Problem), as he sprays and takes care of many of our houses. Please put Wendy, Don and their family in your prayers! Thank you, Juanita

DEATH
What a wonderful way to explain it!

A sick man turned to his doctor as he was preparing to leave the examination room and said, Doctor, I am afraid to die! Tell me what lies on the other side. Very quietly, the doctor said,‘ I don’t know.’ ‘You don’t know? You’re a Christian man, and don’t know what’s on the other side? The doctor was holding the handle of the door; on the other side came a sound of scratching and whining, and as he opened the door, a dog sprang into the room and leaped on him with an eager show of gladness. Turning to the patient, the doctor said, Did you notice my dog? He had never been in this room before. He didn’t know what was inside. He knew nothing except that his master was here, and when the door opened, he sprang in without fear. I know little of what is on the other side of death, but I do know one thing,

I know my Master is there and that is enough!
