Where Strangers Become Friends

PRAYER UPDATE #743

======================

GORDON PARTRIDGE FEB. 6/16

After months of worrying and waiting waiting to get the call to go to Vancouver, on Wed. Gord finally got an angiogram using a very mild solution of dye because of his ongoing problem with his kidneys.  Previously we had been told that if it showed a leakage (which they suspected) they would insert a balloon or replace stents if required, if it wasn't a leakage it would mean very extensive surgery. We didn't get results until Thurs. because the Radiologist and Surgeon wanted to confer on the findings. Well you could have knocked me over with a feather.  Before our daughter and I could get to the hospital hoping to see the doctor Gord phoned to say he was being discharged - the angiogram showed nothing - no leaks or anything.  They suspect that what was shown on the previous scan done his past July without dye just showed what was left from the original graft surgery in July 2013.  The good news is almost hard to believe so we hope and pray that these Doctors are right.  We want to thank all of you for your e-mails, kind thoughts and prayers.  They obviously were heard and now we just have to concentrate on his kidneys and getting completely over the pneumonia and his hip replacement.  You never know we may have the pleasure of seeing you all in PEM sometime in the future.

PRAYER UPDATE #741

======================

GORDON PARTRIDGE FEB. 1/16

Once again I am asking you to remember Gord on the prayer list.  We have to fly to Vancouver General Hospital where on Wed. they will try and determine the cause for another huge abdominal aortic aneurysm.  They will have to inject a much lower dose of dye because of Gord's low kidney function.  They hope this injection will show a leakage somewhere in the original graft that was inserted in July 2014.  If this is the case hopefully it can be repaired by inserting a balloon or replacing some of the original stents.  If it shows a more difficult problem we aren't sure what if anything they will be able to do.  Unfortunately Gord is still recovering from a hip replacement last July but he has regressed hip-wise due to the fact that he has had pneumonia and is still struggling to get over that.  To complicate the problems even more I myself have been in and out of hospital three times due to anxiety and stress.  It is hard to keep calm with so much worry about Gord on my shoulders.  Your prayers have helped us through the long hurdle of July 2014 so please keep us in your thoughts over the next few weeks.  We wish we were there with you all to renew our old friendships and also to make new ones.  PEM is a wonderful place.  Cynthia

LEN BECKER JAN. 17/16

We believe Len is having the last of the tests known to man,  to see what he has.  That test will be a biopsy done by a thoracic surgeon, which will hopefully find out what is going on.  Len's lung specialist has put him through every test they can think of, a few just to mention are, pet scan, heart, liver, kidney, multi fluid tests, and still nothing has shown up.  He is feeling good but just does not have any air.  With luck , and after his test , we are hoping upon hope , that we will be able to come down for a month or month and half. We really appreciate everyone's concerns and prayers.  We are missing our southern family very, very much , as well as getting tired of putting on boots all the time. DOUG HUGHES DEC. 26/15

Doug Hughes came down with 2 forms of Leukemia last September. He underwent at that time many tests, blood and platelet transfusions, bi weekly trips to the oncologist for blood draws, had a port installed. In August of this year, Doug came down with the most dreadful leukemia of the brain stem/spinal column. He underwent 16 treatments for this spinal leukemia. On October 12th he had his last chemo treatment, oncologist indicated he was negative but that the cancer was dormant so could reappear etc. Doug had to give up the sport he loved so very much (Pickle Ball) but was able to play bridge for a short period on Fridays. On November 3rd, he started having headaches again but thought it was just a pinched nerve. He was going to the chiropractor several times a week. On Dec 1st he ended up back in the hospital as headaches were bad, he was falling a lot etc. The tests confirmed that the leukemia returned this time with a vengeance in the brain stem, they put in a port in his head to have chemo go through the port. The chemo made him pretty sick and on 12/21 he was transported by paramedics to the hospital, was diagnosed with Renal Failure. On 12/22 he had a catheter installed in his jugular, went through dialysis. After dialysis his blood pressure plummeted, labs kept going down and decision was made for comfort measures in the hope he could spend his final days at home. It turned out that he was unable to come home and was transported to hospice. Doug passed away on 12/24 at 12:49AM. Doug suffered a great deal and he is no longer in pain. He has joined his loved ones in heaven. He loved playing pickle ball, lawn bowling and bridge. There will be no service as this is what he wanted. We thank all of you that reached out to help his wife Barb, family is doing the best they can at this time.

JOHN MARTIN OCT. 1/15

John is doing SO much better today. He is not in as much pain and they got him up to walk a little 2 times. He is very weak in has to use a walker and they made sure someone walked with him the 2 times. He can't sit up very much as the big cut is in the groan in his left leg. The doctors, nurses & I could believe the difference in him today. His son and I both said it's because of the stubborn old polish man. The doctors also said that a lot of it probably had to do with him being in good shape. The surgeon and heart doctor said that if all goes well he would probably going home this weekend. They said that he will have to use a walker for 5 to 6 weeks. I don't know how he will take that. The nurses and the hospital kitchen gave him ice cream and cake with his dinner tonight and they told the kitchen that it was his 91st birthday and with his lunch he got a BIG piece of raspberry cheese cake and a birthday card from the kitchen. Thanks so much for all your e-mails and prayers. They all helped. Marion

JOHN MARTIN SEP. 30/15

Would like to let people know that John is in the hospital again. It is the second time in a week and a half. He had a very bad blood clot in his left leg. He had surgery today and is in ICU. They were very concerned because he had no pulse in his leg for more them 6 hours. So they had to cut his leg and remove the clot from the artery. Wednesday they are going into his heart to see if the heart has any clots in it. So that they can tell where the clot came from. Please pray for John. Thanks so much. Marion

She thanks everyone for the phone calls, cards & prayers & said she will see you all soon. She sends all her love to everyone. Sent in by Donna Vezina

PHOEBE MELDRUM SEP. 19/15

We would like to ask for prayers for our granddaughter Phoebe who is 12 yrs old.  She was diagnosed with a cyst on her spinal column two years ago and required a type of spinal/brain surgery that corrected the issue.  The issue has caused her to develop a severe case of scoliosis.  She is going to have a spine surgery called Vertebral Body Tethering to help correct her spine.  She has a 75 degree curve.  She will be having her surgery Monday, Sept. 21st. in New York...  This is a very serious surgery...  She is a little trooper and is looking forward to getting her surgery over with.  This is a very long recovery....  So as you can see we are so concerned for her and need all the prayers we can get....  Thank You,    All The Meldrums
